"The women are in a library, luxurious elegant readers. I thought it would be interesting to give them a really strong eyebrow with a masculine sense in the inner part and then an elongation that gives them a sense of authority and confidence." - Lucia Pica
Chanel’s Fall 2019 Couture show was all about books, bow ties, and brows galore. Virginie Viard’s first solo haute couture show took place on a library-inspired catwalk inside Paris’ Grand Palais, complete with rugs, coffee tables, sofa-seating areas, and shelves stacked to the brim with books, of course.
And while the show had us itching to stick our noses into a good read and make our outfits monochrome, it also had us reaching for our brow pencils and eyeliners faster than you can say le geek, c’est chic. This is because, backstage, Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica created a librarian-inspired look so fabulous that we’re declaring it next season’s simplest, chicest way to rock bold brows and a cat-eye flick.
Thanks to images shared exclusively shared with Savoir Flair, we got a backstage peek at Pica’s work and discovered which products it took to create the geek-chic beauty look. Now you won’t feel the pinch of not being there yourself.
Skin was kept super simple, with a barely-there makeup look so clean and fresh it was almost invisible. Of course, a flawless face needs a flawless base, and this was achieved with the perfect prep regimen consisting of the ‘Hydra Beauty Serum’, ‘Hydra Beauty Micro Gel Yeux’, and ‘La Solution 10 De Chanel’. For the ultimate “no makeup” makeup look, it’s all about the new Chanel ‘Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint’. Its revolutionary formula features patented microfluidics and micro-droplets of oil to create a nude-skin finish that’s natural and luminous – a true summer savior.
Cover up any imperfections with the ‘Le Correcteur de Chanel’ concealer before giving skin a quick dusting of the ‘Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder’. For a subtle dewy glow, all it takes is a slick of the transparent ‘Baume Essentiel’ highlighting stick and a touch of the ‘Palette Essentielle’, and you’re good to go.
This look is all about the eyes, where Pica created a strong, bold brow contrasted beautifully with a delicate feline flick. Use the ‘Stylo Sourcils Waterproof’ brow pencil to create elongated eyebrows, focusing on the inner corners and a strongly defined arch, before brushing brows and setting them with the ‘Le Gel Sourcils’. Don’t be afraid to really go for it – the beauty of this look is that obvious definition!
Next, use the ‘Calligraphie de Chanel’ to create a perfectly precise cat-eye – its intense hue and fine-hair brush ensure a flawless flick every time. The final touch? A coat of the ‘Le Volume Révolution de Chanel’ mascara on your top lashes.
To ensure all eyes were on the eyes, lips were left au naturel, with just a touch of the ‘Baume Essentiel’ dabbed onto pouts for a natural, slightly glossy sheen. Simple, chic, and oh-so-Chanel.
