For weeks now, it feels like our Instagram feeds have been rife with all things Game of Thrones, Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, and The Lion King – but we’re not just talking spoilers. Some of our favorite beauty brands have gotten on the pop culture bandwagon, launching collections that celebrate the shows and films that we can’t stop, won’t stop talking about.
It began with MAC’s mid-March announcement of its ‘The Disney Aladdin Collection’, inspired by the “self-determination and confidence of Princess Jasmine”. Two weeks later, Urban Decay sent Game of Thrones superfans into a frenzy by announcing its upcoming collection inspired by the TV phenomenon. Just two days after that, Ulta Beauty snuck up on all of us, dropping a seven-part ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ collection without warning – with a super affordable price tag to boot.
Since its launch, the majority of the ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ collection has sadly sold out online, but the collection’s four shades of shiny lip glosses and the ‘Weekender Bag’ (perfect for storing your beauty buys when you travel), are still available. We’re eagerly awaiting a second drop, so fingers crossed for a restock.
Launched in line with the Game of Thrones season eight premiere, Urban Decay made April 14 that much more special for the show’s diehard fans. With seven products and a 13-piece ‘Vault’ that features the entire collection, it’s impossible to choose a favorite. From the ‘Arya Stark’s Needle’ and ‘Jon Snow’s Longclaw’ eyeshadow brushes to the eyeshadow palette with 20 shades (with names like ‘Stormborn’ and ‘Bay of Dragons’) that pay homage to the series, you’ll be hooked – even if you don’t know your Cersei Lannister from your Sansa Stark.
MAC had us on our toes in anticipation of its Aladdin-inspired release, which you can now buy in-store and online. Between the metallic lip glosses, desert-hued lipsticks, and shimmery blushes, it’s the ultimate way to channel your inner princess. But if you’re more lioness than princess (Leo, anyone?), the latest makeup launch from Luminess Cosmetics will be more your speed. Created in partnership with celebrity makeup artist Sir John – who counts Beyoncé and Karlie Kloss as clients – the limited-edition ‘Sir John x Luminess Cosmetics’ collection that pays tribute to The Lion King is now available here.
Queen Bey, who lends her sultry voice for Nala in the film, was undoubtedly a central inspiration for its palettes. Inside the gorgeous, rose gold packaging are pigment-rich hues inspired by the African landscape, such as the electric blue ‘Zazu’ eyeshadow and matte ‘Pumbaa’ sculpting powder. Oh, and there’s liquid lipsticks and tinted lip balms, too. Which Hollywood hit will land up in your beauty bag next? Watch this space – and shop our current favorites till then.
