Is there any stopping Céline Dion? Between closing out her eight-year residency at Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and preparing to drop a highly anticipated (and long overdue) album later this year, the Canadian superstar already has her hands full – or so you’d think. She has just taken on yet another role, one that she announced via Instagram: she is now a global spokesperson for L’Oreal Paris, joining the likes of Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria, and Julianne Moore.
“I never saw that coming, especially at 51 years old,” said the singer in an official statement as she celebrated her first ever beauty contract. However, the move comes as no surprise as, in an era of beauty brands scrambling to be more inclusive, L’Oreal has featured women of all ages, races, and sizes in its campaigns in recent years. Dion herself has confessed to struggling with self-esteem issues in the past, and admits to only recently embracing her beauty.
Following the tragic death of her husband and long-time mentor René Angélil in 2016, the singer has spoken of a new-found strength that helps her feel more beautiful. And in a case of perfect timing, she now wants to use her collaboration with L’Oreal to “empower everyone to feel beautiful, confident, and to learn to embrace themselves”. Dion’s first gig as brand ambassador – a TV ad for the L’Oreal ‘Excellence’ hair color range – will be unveiled on April 22. In the meantime, discover what the iconic “Because I’m worth it” slogan means to Dion in the video, below.
