Valued at AED 4.752 million, breaking records and making headlines, and covered in a whopping 3,571 diamonds, topaz, and pearls – this isn’t one of Beyoncé’s outrageous on-stage costumes in question, but a perfume celebrating all things Dubai.
Created by none other than Nabeel for its ‘The Spirit of Dubai’ fragrance line, ‘Shumukh’ is a feat that combines the professional artisanship of master jewelers with the unparalleled expertise of some of the world’s best perfumers. It’s also rather statuesque, standing at an impressive 1.97 meters. Not only does it defy all olfactory expectations, but it also personifies the wildest dreams of any luxury aficionado – and represents our superlative-loving city perfectly. Designed to pay tribute to Dubai’s rich history, ‘Shumukh’ is a labor of love, to say the least.
So what else makes it so exceptional? According to master perfumer Asghar Adam Ali – who also happens to be the designer of ‘Shumukh’ and the founder of Nabeel – it was created to be more than just a sculptural triumph. “My vision was not only to capture Dubai’s persona in one monumental piece of art, but also create a fragrance that embodied the pinnacle of luxury in the world of perfumery,” he said.
With three years and 494 perfume trials performed to execute the final result, its unique composition is unisex and holds notes of amber, sandalwood, musk, rare Indian agarwood, Turkish rose, patchouli, ylang-ylang, and frankincense. Unsurprisingly, Guinness World Records has already given ‘Shumukh’ its seal of approval – twice. The perfume has been recognized for “most diamonds set on a perfume bottle” and “tallest remote-controlled fragrance spray product”. And while it’s slightly out of the everywoman’s price range, it’s actually rather accessible for those looking to gawk at it; ‘Shumukh’ will be on display at Fashion Avenue in The Dubai Mall from March 14 to 30.
