The Dior Dream Parade that helped kick off Spring 2019 Couture was just that – downright dreamy. The circus inspired the collection, enveloping every part of the models’ ensembles, including the striking beauty look created by Dior Makeup’s Creative and Image Director, Peter Philips. Through a backstage image shared exclusively with Savoir Flair, above, we’re able to get a closer look at how natural lips took a back seat to the statement eyes that contrasted beautifully against bare faces. There was something truly expressive and captivating in the simplicity of it all.
So what does it take to create an eyeliner effect reminiscent of pantomime character Pierrot? “To obtain this look, I curled the lashes and framed the eyes with a black liner. I circled the eyes completely with a thick, dense line of black using the ‘Diorshow On Stage Liner’,” revealed Philips. Aligning the vertical line with the pupil, he smudged the liner and blurred the edges with ‘Eyeliner Waterproof in Trinidad Black’ for a less perfect, more punk effect. As for the finishing touch? “Lastly, I applied a line of black ‘Diorshow Khôl’ to the upper and lower waterlines so that the eyes were completely ringed in black.”
