It’s safe to say that, after last week’s Golden Globes and yesterday’s Critics’ Choice Awards, 2019 is looking like it’s going to be a big year for celebrity beauty. Last night, stars strutted their stuff down the red carpet in the Barker Hangar of Santa Monica Airport, bringing their A-game when it came to all things hair and makeup. From beautiful braids and elaborate updos to deep berry lips and pretty pink hues, these were the best beauty looks at the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards.
Opting for a classic combination of a cat-eye flick and big, bouncy waves, Laura Harrier oozed elegance as she took to the red carpet.
Lady Gaga said bye to blue and stepped out rocking pure platinum locks again, which were perfectly curled in an old-Hollywood style. She also opted for a more pared-down makeup look courtesy of Sarah Tanno, who focused on big lashes, a subtle sparkle, and berry-pink lips.
Known for her love of the highlight, Chrissy Teigen looked radiant with her dewy skin and deep plum lip.
Armed with Beautycounter products, makeup artist Tobi Henney created a natural ‘English Rose’ look for British beauty Poppy Delevingne with a subtly defined eye and a slick of the ‘Twig’ lipstick. Meanwhile, hairstylist Laura Polko pulled her hair up to create an elegant, twisted chignon.
Patrick Ta worked his makeup magic yet again on Olivia Munn. Using La Mer’s foundation and Shiseido’s ‘Whipped Powder Blush in Setsuko’ to create a flawless, glowing base, he added a touch of bronze to her eyes and coated her lips with a rich blend of Shiseido’s ‘Night Life’ and ‘Exotic Red’ lipsticks.
It wasn’t just Charlize Theron’s metallic rusty eye that got our attention; it was also her incredibly detailed hairdo created by Adir Abergel. The hairstylist incorporated a low chignon with tightly braided sections and a custom-made gold Givenchy halo, which he secured around the back of her head, to make for one of the most intricate ‘dos we’ve seen in a while. Actress Julia Garner’s beauty look was created by makeup artist Hung Vanngo and an array of Chanel skincare and makeup products, which left her looking breathtakingly beautiful – but still with her signature cool-girl edge. If this doesn’t inspire you to try a creamy brown lip, we don’t know what will. For the exact shade, get your hands on a Chanel ‘Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur Jumbo Longwear Lip Crayon in Warm Brown’. You’re welcome.
The perfect way to offset an all-white Michael Kors gown? With a pop of color in your makeup look. Mandy Moore opted for a soft pink hue on her eyes, lips, and cheeks, proving that even a bold color can be used in a subtle, sophisticated way.
It was all about lots of kohl liner for Jameela Jamil, who – instead of using a classic black – opted for a deep teal green to really make her big brown eyes pop.
We almost didn’t recognize Emmy Rossum, who rarely opts for anything other than light lips and soft waves, but we’re all for this darker beauty look. It saw her match her mouth to her burgundy dress, combined with a show-stopping, slicked-back updo.
No, Emily Blunt’s look wasn’t the result of a Mary Poppins spell. Instead, she owes it to makeup artist Jenn Streicher, who used the “less is more” approach to perfectly compliment her dazzling Prada gown and 59 carats of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds.
We love a good braid, especially when it comes wrapped in ribbon and is teamed with glowing skin and a bronze eye. Gemma Chan was pure red-carpet beauty perfection last night.
