Successful people around the world have their morning routines down to a fine art. So just how does model and Victoria’s Secret Angel Sara Sampaio start her day? Savoir Flair gets a peek into her morning rituals, from her go-to beauty products to the music that gets her up and out.
What time I’m up in the morning really depends on whether I’m working or not, but I’m definitely not a morning person, so I sleep in whenever and wherever I can. Otherwise, I usually start my day very early and finish late. I’m not big on meditating, so if I have the time, I’ll sleep a little bit extra instead!
I definitely check my phone first thing when I wake up. I always check Instagram and Twitter as I love being so easily connected with my friends, family, and adoring fans. And I also love playing the game, Flow Free! I follow different accounts, including Victoria’s Secret and those of inspirational trainers. I love this one trainer called Emily Skye – she has just had a baby, and she’s just so inspiring to watch. I also follow my friends to see what they’re doing on a daily basis.
Once I’m out of bed, I like to make breakfast and then run errands or start my day with a full-body workout. When I’m not traveling, I usually make myself a healthy breakfast, like eggs with avocado toast and mint tea. On occasion, I may also have a smoothie with vegan protein powder, fresh strawberries, and almond milk – it gives me all the energy I need to start my day off right and lasts me until lunch if I have a busy schedule. Leading up to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, I like to make sure I’m taking extra care of myself. I try to get a ton of sleep – which isn’t always easy – eat really healthy and nourishing foods, make sure that I’m keeping my skin hydrated, and add extra intensity into my workouts.
I’ll listen to music when I get ready as it helps me wake up and gets me in a great mood. Often, it’s some chill indie music or some pop to sing along to. I also really love Eminem. I’m not a big hip hop fan, but I love him – and then I love rock and roll like Queen and Aerosmith. I also love Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes! I go everywhere with music, but it’s more rock and pop rather than hip hop.

I always shower and wash my hair at night, so I can sleep as much as possible in the morning and don’t waste too much time getting ready! For me, less is more, so I’ll use a moisturizer called ‘Cicalfate’ from Avène in the morning and then go makeup-free or use very minimal makeup to protect my skin in the daytime – especially when I’ve had a lot of makeup on recently for work. I’ve also been using this Avène cleanser for very sensitive skin, and it really helps my skin calm down from all the rubbing and use of makeup, which makes it really red and sensitive. I love it!
I also try to do a lot of masks, like the Korean ones. I don’t like exfoliating too much, so I always try to hydrate as much as I can. When do I wear makeup, I love using the Giorgio Armani ‘Luminous Silk Foundation’ as it makes your skin look bright, yet still looking natural. And I always love lots of highlighter!
I base what I’m wearing on what I have planned for the day and how I’m feeling. Some days, I just want to feel comfortable and I’ll put a basic T-shirt and jeans – and I’m all good to go. I also love wearing the Victoria’s Secret ‘T-Shirt Demi Bra’ because it’s simple and comfortable. And when I go out, it’s the ‘Dream Angels Lightly Lined Demi Bra’ in black lace.
What time I leave the house depends on my workouts, but I’ll usually leave home around 10:30 a.m. to go exercise. I actually prefer working out in the evening, though. I tend to do weight or resistance training in the mornings and, if I have to do cardio, I’ll do it in the evening because I have more energy then. It’s very hard for me and takes longer to get into cardio in the morning! I love the whole ‘Victoria Sport’ line; the workout tights and sport bras are so comfortable that I don’t exercise without them! There are always so many fun prints and styles to choose from.
One of my morning habits includes feeding my dogs to make sure they’re eating enough. I have a little long-haired Chihuahua back at home with my parents, and we have two Shiba Inus in New York and they are so, so cute!
Some days, I’ll organize myself very well and, other days, I’ll just go with the flow – it all depends on what I feel like doing that day. But I always try to make time for a workout and then plan my day around that. It could be lunch with girlfriends, catching up with family over dinner, or a bit of shopping!
