We first met her as a spunky redhead in Superbad and before we knew it, Emma Stone captured our hearts with her style. With her couture-savvy always landing her on every best-dressed list and her fearless approach to fashion keeping us on our toes, there’s nothing this actress can’t wear and no hairstyle she won’t try. Though she’s forever a gorgeous redhead in our hearts, the actress is actually a natural blonde – who knew?
From her blonde status in The Amazing Spider-Man to her brown tresses in Battle of the Sexes and, of course, that signature red in La La Land, the birthday girl has done it all. Now, as today’s birthday girl celebrates turning 30, having spent over ten years in the industry, we can’t help but take a look back at the chameleon’s hair evolution over the years.
Brassy and Sassy
When she first came on the scene in 2007 as Jules in Superbad, Emma’s comedic genius shone through and she captivated the audience with her scene-stealing performance. Her long red hair became her signature, while her relatable personality made us swoon.
The Dark Side
At the 2008 premiere of The House Bunny, the actress opted for a darker hue that’s closer to auburn. As the funny girl’s career got more exposure, she slowly started to experiment with her hair, sporting this more grown-up bun. How chic!
Come 2010, Stone had become a bona fide star and wasn’t afraid to change. With buttery blonde hair and choppy bangs, the actress stunned the world by returning to her natural color for a role.
After a few years and a couple of hit films – Crazy, Stupid, Love anyone? – the actress went back to red with a drastic chop just above the shoulders. She had a few serious roles under her belt by now, and this look matched that perfectly.
Dark, Darker, Darkest
At the 2016 Met Gala, Stone shocked us once again, this time going even further outside her comfort zone. Once known for beachy waves in red, she now exuded Hollywood glamour with sleek waves in chocolate brown.
Going from one extreme to the other, Stone (once again) proved that she could pull off just about any hair color by going lighter than she had before. Keeping her platinum tresses short and paired with pale skin and a statement lip, she transformed into a version we hadn’t seen yet.
Return to Red
Stone has since gone back to her signature hue and wavy bob. After showing us that she can pull off virtually any shade of blonde, brown, and – of course – red, the birthday girl looks just as we remember her. We can’t wait to see what she’ll try next!
