Year after year, season after season, the cat-eye flick remains one of the most iconic beauty looks of all time, gracing the lids of women around the world – from Cleopatra and Old Hollywood starlets such as Elizabeth Taylor to modern-day muses like Angelina Jolie and Bella Hadid. And in a case of standing the test of time, the Spring/Summer 2019 runways of Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, and Erdem were proof that this feline-inspired look isn’t going anywhere.

But liquid liner can do so much more than give you a flawless flick. It can make your eyes look bigger and your lashes look thicker. It can also be used to create a cool, graphic liner look like the ones we saw at Rochas, Versace, and Ashley Williams. As Mohammed Hindash, one of the Middle East’s most in-demand makeup artists says, “There are so many ways of using a liquid eyeliner, and the first step is to recognize your eye shape and what outcome you want from your liner.”

We’ve been addicted to Hindash’s Instagram and YouTube tutorials forever, and the way he uses liner to create works of art is mesmerizing. So, when we heard that he had created his own eyeliner in collaboration with Wojooh – one that doesn’t smudge, budge, transfer, or flake – we tapped him for getting its application right, once and for all. Here’s what he had to say.

How can I create the perfect feline flick?

1) The best way to get your wings even is to stamp the liner at an angle at the corner of your eye, pointing up to the end of your brow. As you stamp, you get the initial direction of your wing.
2) Pause and look straight into the mirror. You want to make sure your liner looks even when you’re looking straight ahead as opposed to down on a mirror.
3) Connect the wing to the middle of your lid, stopping at the center of where your pupil would be if you look straight ahead. Connect the line very tightly and thinly across your lash line.
4) From here you can control how bold and far you want your eyeliner to go. As long as you have the basic shape and technique, you can get creative!

Can I enhance my eyes using liner?

I love to draw a very thin line along the lashes to make them look thicker, and you can do this even without creating a wing. It will look like you don’t have any liner on, and makes your lashes full and your eyes brighter.

If you’re wearing false lashes, covering the band with a thin line creates a more realistic lash look!
