“Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue”. You can sing a rainbow, and now you can look like one too, thanks to the latest hair trend taking over Hollywood. Last week, Kim Kardashian West stepped out donning neon-green locks, Dua Lipa just celebrated her birthday with a bright blue ‘do, and Hailey Baldwin has made pink her preferred pick.

There were even neon wigs on the Fall/Winter 2018 runways, with shocking shades of all colors spotted at Jeremy Scott, rainbow “yarn” braids at Margiela, and sharp, bright bobs at Marc Jacobs, where lead hair stylist Guido Palau sought inspiration from the bright beauty looks of the 80s. “Looking at the 80s, it was about doing hair that really popped out that wasn’t meant to be natural at all or like you had done it yourself. If you went out during that period, it was about dressing it up with a total look with cut and color”, he explained.

Still not convinced? Scroll through the gallery below to discover the best bright-hair looks that are inspiring us to reach for the dye. From Gigi Hadid’s flashes of fluorescent pink to Jourdan Dunn’s vibrant violet ‘fro and Rita Ora’s fiery orange look, it’s clear that now is the time to go bright or go home.

If you’re thinking that you might want to give this trend a try, but you’re not quite ready to commit to luminous locks for long, you don’t have to go hunting for a high-quality wig like celebrities do. Instead, there are some super simple and effective temporary hair colors that do the job just as well.

From semi-permanent color to wash-out options, these are our top three picks that pack a seriously colorful punch.

The Semi-Permanent Pick

Whether you want a dark blue ‘do or flashes of fuchsia in your hair, look no further than these magical mane transformers. Completely vegan and cruelty-free, they load locks up with bright semi-permanent color without damaging or drying them. They also couldn’t be easier to use. Simply apply to dry hair, leave for one to two hours (or 30 minutes if you’re after a more pastel look), rinse, condition, et voilà – cool color sorted.
