Morning Routine: How Model and Actress Olivia Culpo Starts Her Day

Successful people around the world have their morning routines down to a fine art. So just how does actress, model, former Miss Universe winner, and beauty icon Olivia Culpo start her day?

Culpo was recently in Dubai to announce a major new beauty bash taking place in April entitled Beauty Pop, which will be jam-packed with makeup masterclasses, panel discussions, meet-and-greets, and regional celebrities doing their thing (watch this space for more info). Savoir Flair took the opportunity to chat with the brunette beauty about her morning rituals, from her go-to breakfasts to the products that keep her looking and feeling her best.


I wake up around 8:30 a.m. on a typical day – actually that’s me trying to be optimistic! It’s more like 8 a.m. I’m definitely a morning person, and I don’t really have a problem waking up really early. It’s more that, sometimes, I’m working so hard that I know I should sleep a little longer. Usually, it’s harder for me to stay asleep because I’m so excited to start the day!

The first thing I do when I wake up is make sure I didn’t miss anything on my texts or calls, and then I make a hot water and lemon – every morning. I try to meditate in the mornings when I can, and then I’ll go through my e-mails, make a list of things that need to get done, call my assistant, go over those things, work out, come back, and work – all day!

First thing in the morning, I check Instagram and my e-mails. I also always check the discovery page on Twitter because I like to see what’s trending and what’s in the news. I don’t really watch TV in the mornings; I do that more at night, but I’m always listening to music. I love all types – country, pop, R&B, anything really!

When I’m going through my e-mails, I sit under a heated blanket. I always use one in the morning. I live in LA, but when I sleep, I love the air to be really cold – and then I’m freezing when I get up and walk around! The heated blanket keeps me all nice and warm.

After I have some hot water and lemon, there are a few different breakfast options I love. One is oatmeal with peanut butter and banana. I also love a six-minute egg with avocado and turkey bacon. The six-minute egg is the perfect runny egg, and it’s so simple! You boil water, put an egg or however many you want in for exactly six minutes, then take it out and put it in ice-cold water. And that’s how you have the perfect egg!

I’ll always opt to eat something healthy if I can, but I do like to have a little bit of sugar here or there, especially when I am traveling a lot. My whole philosophy is everything in moderation. I never have too much of anything and, that way, I can have a little bit of everything. I’ll also have either green tea or coffee in the morning.

When I do my meditation, I like to use the Headspace app. It’s really great! They have a lot of different packages – stress, anxiety, problem solving, and even things that you wouldn’t expect like diet or physical activity. I spend anywhere between five to 20 minutes meditating, but it really depends on how much time I have that day. And I try to do it every day.

When it comes to working out, I like to run and work out with my personal trailer. I love Pilates, barre, SoulCycle… and I know you guys have FlyBarre and Flywheel here in Dubai, which I also love! I also like using the app Sweat by Kayla Itsines, which I know everyone does. How much I work out really depends on my traveling and how much I feel my body can handle because, sometimes, I’m so lacking in sleep that it’s better not to. If I’m at home and not doing anything, I work out five days a week.

On a typical day, I won’t wash my face or shower until after I’ve come back from my workout. I’ll then use a sunscreen, an eye cream, and a face moisturizer with a little bit of the Clarins ‘Glow Booster’ drops because I love the way they add color to my skin. Next, I’ll use a tinted moisturizer with a primer of some sort, and that will be my foundation for the day. I like to curl my lashes and use a Blink mascara wand with a little bit of hairspray to set my brows in place.

Sometimes, I use the Dior brow pencil to color in if there’s anywhere that needs more definition. I’ll then apply a lip liner – I like the ones by MAC – and some chapstick, and that’s usually all I do. On my skin, I like the Koh Gen Do ‘Moisture Foundation’ and love Charlotte Tilbury eye products – she has the best palettes! I also really like her ‘Filmstar Bronze & Glow Palette’. I use the NARS ‘Creamy Concealer’ with the SK-II facial mist spray to set it.

I wash my hair every other day and love using Oribe – it’s my favorite scent. I really like its ‘Dry Texturizing Spray’. I also love L’Oréal’s ‘Elnett Hairpsray’, and that’s all! I really like when I can let my hair do its own thing, unless I have to attend an event or something. That means it has to be styled, so I rarely get to just let it be how it is.

What time I leave the house totally depends on the day, but I’m not the type to stay home all day, even if I did have a day off. I like to go to the grocery store, the farmers’ market, a flower shop, or even down to the beach.

As no two days are ever the same, the shared calendar that I have with everyone on my team is so helpful. It keeps us all organized and makes sure we all know what’s going on! There’s also a sheet that is sent daily, which lists what’s happening the following day – all the specifics of where to be at what time. It involves my whole team, and there are a lot of us. Well, there are about 20, but it feels like 400 because we do so much!
