From major celebrity launches to drastic transformations, 2017 didn’t disappoint when it came to big news in the worlds of hair, makeup, and fragrance. Read on for the nine beauty moments that defined 2017 in Savoir Flair’s year-end roundup.
Fenty Beauty Finally Launched
After two years of anticipation, Rihanna finally launched her makeup line Fenty Beauty this year. Not only did she embrace cruelty-free products (hooray), but she also created one of the most diverse makeup ranges on the market, offering a whopping 40 shades of foundations to suit all skin tones. There are also mega-watt highlighters, perfecting primers, high-shine shimmer sticks, and glossy lip lacquers galore. In a nutshell? It’s RiRi in a makeup line – and we’re all for that.
The Buzz Cut Was Back
Cara Delevingne paved the way for a whole host of shaved heads as the buzz cut made a big, bold comeback in 2017. Katy Perry, Kate Hudson, and Kristen Stewart were just some of the other leading ladies who braved one of the biggest hair trends of the year.
Chanel Released a Major New Fragrance
When it comes to iconic fragrances, there aren’t many who do it better than Chanel. ‘N°5’, ‘Coco Mademoiselle’, and even ‘Chance’ have become perfume classics, and this year they were joined by a new scent sister: ‘Gabrielle’. The first major fragrance launch by Chanel in 15 years, it’s also the first creation by the fashion house’s new Master Perfumer, Olivier Polge.
Huda Beauty Sent the Makeup World into a Frenzy (Again)
Not only was 2017 the year of Huda Beauty’s ‘Desert Dusk’ eyeshadow palette (which we’re still obsessing over), but it’s also when the world went mental over her first foundation. And rightly so. Delivering full-coverage and a velvet-matte formula packed with hydrating ingredients, it sold out almost instantly and had Sephora stores packed to the brim with makeup fanatics.
ASOS Ventured into Beauty
And it did good. Boasting everything from matte lipsticks to contouring palettes, highlighting sticks to metallic eyeliners, ASOS nailed it with its new makeup line. We particularly love the on-trend packaging in millennial-pink and the fact that everything is easy on the wallet.
Hermès Opened Its Second Fragrance Boutique – in Dubai
Fragrance fanatics couldn’t wait to step foot in the new Hermès perfume boutique that opened recently in Mall of the Emirates. As it’s only the second ever standalone perfume store from the luxury brand, it represents a major beauty moment for the Middle East and stocks everything from best-selling scents to beautiful body products. There’s even a separate room in the back, where you can get lost in the world of Hermès perfume in privacy. Heaven.
Selena Gomez Went Blonde
Yes, it’s true. 2017 saw Selena Gomez ditch her brunette locks in favor of a short, blonde ‘do – and we’re digging it. Other celebs to make blonde their hair hue this year include Emma Stone, Marion Cotillard, Emma Roberts, and Kim Kardashian.
Kim Kardashian Joined the Beauty World
Speaking of Kim K, this was also the year she launched KKW Beauty, a collection of contouring wands, liquid lipsticks, highlighters, and even crystal-infused fragrances – true story. It has definitely succeeded in making contouring simple and approachable, which was Kardashian’s aim when she started creating her cool, minimalist products.
Gigi Collaborated with Maybelline
Just when we thought the world of celebrity makeup lines couldn’t get any better, Gigi Hadid collaborated with Maybelline to create her very own limited-edition collection. Not only are beauty buffs loving the pretty pale-pink packaging, but we’re also in for anything that can help us look as gorgeous as Gigi.
