It’s weird enough that women alter their faces in extreme ways with contouring, highlighter, and other beauty techniques, but Instagram is signal-boosting even more bizarre beauty trends to the masses at lightning speed. We recently reported on eight crazy beauty trends that we cannot believe actually exist, but it seems every time one fades into the background, another even stranger one rises up to take its place.
We’re either being masterfully trolled or some beauty mavens out there have gone a little off the deep end. From nausea-inducing nails to eyelashes that require an accompanying audio-visual tech, here are five more bizarre beauty trends that have popped up in 2017.
Squiggle Brows and Lips
New York Post named squiggle eyebrows and lips the “stupidest” trend ever, but that also dismissed all the makeup artists over on Instagram who are actually having fun with squiggles. While it may be a head-scratcher – mostly because we’re not sure where you would wear such a look – this crazy beauty trend is pretty harmless. Even legendary beauty guru Huda Kattan entertained the idea of squiggle brows, posting a Photoshopped version to her Instagram account.
OMG 😂😂😂 What do you guys think of my brows? #Repost @lanartistry ・・・ Just wondered what @hudabeauty would look like with this brow trend haha😄. I think she looks bomb with any look! 😂😲❤️(it’s a sad world without laughter, so let’s not be too serious and have a laugh (photoshopped). I dont actually think anyone would walk around with it. Maybe for Halloween or to put a smile on someone’s face 😄😄❤️ Pleaseeee be kind to one another sweeties! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
While flashing, colorful LED lashes are cool in concept, they are wired, which means you have to walk around with an electronic controller attached to your person somewhere. They seem like a great idea for a rave or costume party, but we also have to wonder whether or not they have been evaluated for safety by an ophthalmologist. It seems like intense flashing bulbs a mere millimeters away from your eyeballs might do some damage over time.
LED LASHES?!🤔 What do you guys think about these? 👍🏼 or 👎 Let me know😄👇 THE LINK TO THE FULL REVIEW VIDEO & WHERE YOU CAN GET THEM IS IN MY BIO😁 Que piensan de estas pestañas!?😀 Los comprarian o no? 👍🏼 o 👎 Diganme en los comentarios 😊 . . . #wakeupandmakeup #fiercesociety #flawlessdolls #makegirlz #make4glam #bretmansvanity #makeuptutorialsx0x #universodamaquiagem_oficial #makeupforbabies @bretmansvanity @makeupforbarbies @makegirlz @makeuptutorialsx0x #1minutemakeup @1minutemakeup #subscribe #makeup #instagood #ledlashes #brian_campagne #eyelashes #hudabeauty @hudabeauty
This is such a preposterous trend that we don’t even know where to begin dissecting it. Fur materials trap all manner of bacteria, microorganisms, dust, and more, so the fact that something so unsanitary would be attached to your hands is mind-boggling. Hard pass.
Like the LED lashes, blacklight makeup is cool in theory, especially when it comes to costume parties or electronic dance music concerts. However, no one will know you’re sporting it unless you also happen to be packing a personal blacklight. This “trend” is clearly just for Instagram and photo shoots.
What started out as an accident when a makeup artist dabbed glitter on her tongue while positioning it on her mouth for a self-shoot quickly became an Instagram phenomenon, spawning many imitators. While it may look cool in photos – and we’re being generous here – you’re really just eating glitter at the end of the day.
