Successful people around the world have their morning routines down to a fine art. So just how does fashion designer and former model Anine Bing start her day? Savoir Flair gets a peek into her morning rituals, from her go-to beauty products to her favorite breakfast options.
I don’t have to set my alarm; my kids wake me up around 6 a.m. every morning! I really am a morning person — I wake up right away and I am ready to go. I also make sure to go to bed around 10 p.m. so that I get enough sleep.
I start my morning with a cup of coffee or a matcha latte, and make sure to eat a good breakfast: usually a smoothie made with avocado, kale, lemon, apple juice, and ice cubes or oatmeal made with almond milk, cinnamon, and agave. Other times, I just have cereal with the kids – whatever’s on hand that morning! I’m a busy mom on the go, so it always has to be easy.
I wish I could say I was doing something like meditating as soon as I’m up, but the first thing I do after saying good morning to my kids and husband is check my phone – but I’m not that bad! I check my e-mails to make sure nothing urgent happened overnight and to see what is on my calendar for the day.
I usually jot down five things that I’d like to get done for the day, which helps me stay focused and organized. Then, of course, I have to check Instagram to get inspired and respond to any messages or comments. I always try to respond as much as I can. Lastly, I check Shopify so I can stay up to date on the business side of things.
I don’t watch too much TV, even in the mornings – there is too much to do during the day. But when it comes to music, I love Mazzy Star, The Cranberries, Cat Power, and sometimes even classical music if the mood strikes.
I get inspired by so many different things. I love making little collages and flipping through photography books. I tend to keep a lot of old magazines and refer back to them sometimes, if I have the time, to get inspired by what was cool years ago. I also love going to flea markets to check out new vintage finds.
I shower every day, but I wash my hair every couple of days – it actually looks better when it’s not too clean. I usually use dry shampoo to give it some texture. When it comes to my hair products, I don’t really have one specific brand that I go with, but I do love Jen Atkin’s products these days!
I love using coconut oil to take off any makeup at night, plus it’s so hydrating for my skin. One of my favorite products is a night cream by Paula’s Choice. I love their products. The ‘Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment’ is my favorite. I also love skincare from La Mer and Sensai. I try to keep my daily makeup routine as easy and effortless as possible. I usually wear a little highlighter or bronzer, some mascara, and normally no lipstick. I love Bobbi Brown; I’ve been using the line for years.
Most days, I leave my home at 7:45 a.m. if I’m dropping the kids off at school before heading into the office. It’s different during the summer, though – my hours are a bit more up and down. I don’t have that many morning habits, but I do love writing things down that I am grateful for, as well as things I’d like to work towards throughout the day. That keeps me really clear about goals for myself.
