Rossano Ferretti is officially taking over the world, one hair salon at a time. The celebrity hairdresser famed for transforming the locks of Kate Middleton (along with a whole host of celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, and Reese Witherspoon) now boasts a repertoire of 21 outlets worldwide in highly sought-after destinations like Milan, Paris, New York, the Maldives and, of course, Dubai.
That’s when I realized I had something different to everybody else.
There’s no denying that you need be someone pretty special to get to where Ferretti has, but surprisingly, it’s not always what he envisioned for himself, despite the fact that hairdressing was a huge part of his family. “You know my mom was a hairdresser, and my grandfather was a barber. He worked in our local square after the war, when there was very little money. It was just him, his Lambretta scooter, and two leather bags with his tools inside. He’d go around to people’s homes doing their hair,” he recalls.
“I always thought I’d be a soccer player, especially as my papa was such a good player, but when I was about 11, my teachers would always ask me to paint for them because I was very good with creative things. I then thought maybe I’d do something with architecture or something creative because my hands worked in harmony in a very organic way – I didn’t even have to think about it, they just did it. At one point, my mom asked me, ‘Why don’t you want to follow your roots?’”
To this, Ferretti replied: “Mom, there’s nothing here for me. You work in a very small salon in a very small place.” Still, his mother encouraged him to go off into the world and travel, discover new places and languages, and follow his dreams. “So I started to travel and got into the fashion industry at a very young age. That’s when I realized I had something different to everybody else,” he continues.
Something he certainly does differently to everyone else is creating the most luxurious and decadent – yet unpretentious – hair salons in the world. This summer he opened the doors to his brand new Monaco salon, which Savoir Flair was lucky enough to experience before anyone else. Whether you’re planning a trip to Monaco or not, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you don’t want to miss, and it’s honestly worth the journey alone. Read on to discover why this might just be the most super salon of them all.
Not only is the salon in Monaco one of the most glamorous beauty destinations in the world, but it also sits pride of place in the highly exclusive Hotel de Paris. It also happens to be slap bang in the middle of the Casino de Monte-Carlo, Monaco’s most central and famous square, making it the perfect place to position a luxury hair salon.
As Ferretti says, “Our locations are carefully chosen to ensure clients receive a five-star experience from the very moment they enter. We strive to position our salons in buildings that are beautiful, have strong historical ties, and perpetuate our appreciation for art, architecture, design, fashion, and the culinary arts, as well as for the overall notion of refinement that we value within our brand. We’ve waited a long time to find the perfect location in Monaco and in the Hotel de Paris – the epitome of Riviera glamour – and we’ve found an exceptional match.”
When it comes to jet-setters and distinguished clients, Ferretti has thought of it all. Even if you’re sunning it up on a super yacht or off relaxing on a boat for the day, Rossano Ferretti’s team will come trim your tresses or style your hair as you sail along the French Riviera. Or, if you happen to be lounging on your private jet, they can come on-board that, too. It doesn’t get more exclusive than that.
In true Rossano Ferretti style, the salon can be described perfectly with one word: chic. Featuring a monochrome color scheme of black and white, it’s flooded with natural light that shines through the walls of windows, which also boast breathtaking sea views. Despite it being small, it feels incredibly spacious.
Glossy black tables and dividing walls with plasma TVs contrast beautifully against the light-wood floor and plush velvet sofas. There are vases of fresh white flowers throughout, elaborate chandeliers hang from the ceilings, and a big black-and-white image of Ferretti’s mother on the wall adds a personal touch and acts as a reminder of how his story began. Let’s just say this place is so pretty that you’ll want to move in.
There’s a private entrance to the salon away from the main square and hotel front, and there’s also a private suite with its own washbasin and styling station, which can be completely closed off from the rest of the salon to provide the perfect slice of solitude when you just want to shut off and get pampered. Paradise.
Not only is the Monaco salon where Rossano spends most of his time, which means you can book in with the maestro himself, it also has a super exclusive team of stylists. They’ve all been hand-selected and curated by Ferretti and, of course, trained in his famous and revolutionary cutting technique known as “The Method”, which focuses on the natural fall of hair and cutting it vertically, following its natural movement. Whether you’re after natural balayage color, a nourishing hair treatment, a mani-pedi, or the best haircut of your life, they can transform you from top to toe.
Does your hair salon have a library? Thought not, but this one does. Plus, there’s a café and shelves stocked with Ferretti’s luxury haircare line, which fuses powerful natural ingredients with the latest biotechnology to make for what we can honestly describe as the best haircare products on the market – not to mention they’re so prettily packaged that they’ll look stunning in your shower. It’s safe to say that whether it’s a cut or a shampoo, once you’ve experienced the Rossano Ferretti touch, you’ll never go back.
