Successful people around the world have their morning routines down to a fine art. So just how does Negin Mirsalehi, influencer and founder of Gisou hair care, start her day? Savoir Flair gets a peek into her morning rituals, from her go-to beauty products to where she finds inspiration.

To be completely honest, I’m not a morning person at all, even though I’d like to be! I can’t remember the last time I had a “normal day”, which is why I don’t have a set wakeup time – especially when I’m back from traveling, as I like to rest a little more then. I always set my alarm clock just in case, but my alarm now is our new pup Moosey. He is always up early, so I usually get out of bed when he is up and running!

The first thing I do when I wake up is check Instagram and my e-mail, even though I know it’s a bad habit! I use Facetime and WhatsApp a lot because they’re the best ways to keep in contact with my family, especially when I am traveling. I check Instagram often because I regularly post photos, and I also love to browse online to stay up to date on the newest trends and actualities. I visit different news websites like BBC World News and The Huffington Post, and I get my daily dose of beauty inspiration from lots of different sites like Byrdie, Into the Gloss, Allure, and of course Instagram and YouTube, too.

My go-to accounts are @IntoTheGloss and @VioletGrey for beauty, and @BOF for fashion news. I love lifestyle channels like @BuzzFeedTasty, where I get a lot of unhealthy food inspiration from! And I love the Casey Neistat YouTube channel. I use Spotify for music – I listen to lots of different genres, but lately it’s been a lot of ColdplayDrake, and Dua Lipa.

After that I make some breakfast and tea with honey from my father’s bee garden. I mostly eat healthy, but I definitely have a sweet tooth and enjoy good food, so balance is especially important when I travel. It’s easy to get tempted by unhealthy food during a trip, but because I’m away so much, it’s so important for me to eat healthy to keep my resistance up. I always drink a glass of water the second I wake up – this is a habit I learned from my father, as he always said it’s like an internal shower for your body.

What I have for breakfast really depends on my schedule. When I have to leave the house early, I usually have some oatmeal with almond milk, fruit, nuts, and a scoop of peanut butter. Another breakfast favorite is a typical Dutch rice cracker with banana and peanut butter. When I have more time, I like to go out and get an açai bowl, especially after a workout. I always drink lots of water in the morning with my breakfast, too.

Depending on my schedule, I’ll get a workout in. I’m quite experimental when it comes to exercising, and I like to try new and different things. I don’t have a strict workout schedule as it really depends on my day. I like to squeeze in a morning workout at my hotel gym when I’m traveling, and also when I get home from an event and have some time for myself as well. I just started personal training back at home. I had done some PT sessions with a friend of mine in LA in preparation for Coachella and I really liked it, so I went out and found a good trainer in Amsterdam!

I also start my morning by cuddling with Moosey before I take him out for a morning walk. We’ve had him for almost a month now. I do this walk every day when I’m home – it only takes about 20 minutes max as he’s just a pup! I like to start my morning with a walk, especially now that it’s spring in Amsterdam. We usually walk in our neighborhood along the Amstel River, which flows through the city.

Once I’ve had my breakfast and completed my workout, I take a shower and get ready for the day. When it comes to my hair, I don’t really experiment a lot to keep it healthy. My mother advised me to not wash my hair too often, so I wash it a maximum of three times a week. I use my Gisou ‘Honey Infused Hair Oil’ every day, and my ‘Propolis Heat Protecting Spray’ before I use heated hair tools.

Both are available exclusively at Sauce in the UAE. What I like the most about my oil is that it’s a multi-purpose product, and I can use it in so many different ways. I use it after washing my hair as a finishing product to add shine and, once a week, I add a couple of drops to my hair mask for deeper nourishment – this hydrates my hair and makes it feel super silky! My mother is the only person who has ever cut my hair, and she’s the only one I trust with my hair.

I’m not set on one particular shampoo or conditioner as I haven’t found ones that I’d loyally stick to. I’m lucky to have my own hair care line, so I’m able to develop these products myself! I use dry shampoo regularly because I try not to wash my hair too often, and I like to switch between different ones, depending on the look I am going for. For example, if I need more volume, I always go for the Living Proof ‘Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo’. I also like to use the non-aerosol one with oat milk from Klorane.

When it comes to my skin, I think moisturizing is key, so I always use a moisturizer with a high SPF in it. I recently also bought a restorative cream by Avène. I definitely have my go-to products when it comes to my everyday makeup routine. I start with the Dior ‘One Essential City Defense SPF 50’, and then use the Giorgio Armani ‘Luminous Silk Foundation’ in shade 6.5, which I apply with a Tarte kabuki brush and blend in with a beautyblender.

Next, it’s time for concealer. I use the Estée Lauder ‘Double Wear Concealer’ in shade number 2, and the NARS ‘Radiant Creamy Concealer’. I then use the Kiko ‘Perfect Eyes Duo Highlighter Pencil’ to highlight not only my eyes, but also the bridge of my nose before contouring my face with the Dior ‘Light and Contour Sculpting Stick’. To finish my skin, I use Laura Mercier’s ‘Translucent Loose Setting Powder’.

I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Brow Wiz’ in the soft-brown shade on my brows, and the ‘Brow Drama’ eyebrow gel from Maybelline. When it comes to my lashes, I use a lash curler to prep them before applying the Maybelline ‘Colossal’ waterproof mascara.

I use the Zoeva ‘Nude Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette’ on a daily basis, mainly the lighter shades, and my lip must-haves are definitely the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’ lipstick and lip liner. It can easily take up to one and a half hours a day for me to do my hair and makeup and put an outfit together!

I love planning, so I try to plan and organize my days by making schedules. Before I leave the house, I make sure to have everything that I need for that day in my bag – I can never forget my iPhone charger or my vlogging camera, for example! Although I travel a lot, I keep in touch closely with the Gisou team back home with daily calls. This can be tricky with time differences, so we also stay in touch via e-mail and on our WhatsApp group chat, where we keep each other posted on current projects, Gisou articles, online posts, and lots of fun stuff!

We always like to start our Gisou team and product-development meetings early in the morning, so that everyone is sharp, energized, and ready to start the day! This is really important for our mindset and creative focus. We discuss new products and overall beauty trends, but also look at the smallest details of any products that we are currently developing. It’s a great and productive way to start the day and have everybody on the same page.

There is no specific time frame in which I leave my home. Sometimes I work from home, and sometimes I decide to work at the office. On other days, I’m working on content creation or shoots. It also depends whether we are traveling or not, so no two days are really the same in my life!
