Whether it’s on Instagram or backstage at Fashion Week, barefaced beauty is still going strong. A gorgeous “no-makeup makeup” look that requires minimal effort, it allows women to look fabulous and flawless sans filter. Eager to find out exactly how the pros achieve that enviable complexion, Savoir Flair turned to Eric Antoniotti, Clarins’ International Artist and Training Director. Here, he reveals how the Clarins team worked with super skincare and makeup products at the Mugler Fall/Winter 2017 show to create stunning, sublime skin and the ultimate barefaced beauty look.
Start with Skincare
Healthy, glowing, beautiful skin is the foundation of this look, so Antoniotti’s top tip is to prep your skin with perfecting products before you apply your makeup. “First, we applied either the ‘Double Serum’ or the ‘Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil’ to skin to keep it moisturized and healthy. Next, we used the ‘Multi-Active Day Cream’, using light pressing movements to drain the tissues and give extra radiance to the skin.”
Get the Glow
The next step is achieving glowing skin. If your skin has been looking more lackluster than luminous these days, don’t worry. You can cheat your way to a glow with a few natural-looking product picks. As Antoniotti explains, “The first secret is to boost the luminosity of the skin by applying the ‘Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in 01 Pink’. Then, to even out the complexion and create a nice glowing effect, we used a very light amount of ‘True Radiance Foundation’ locally – focusing on the T-zone and cheekbones.”
Perfect Your Peepers
Barefaced beauty isn’t just about skin – it’s about eyes too. You can make your eyes pop just by adding a hint of subtle shimmer for that “no-makeup makeup” look. At Mugler, the use of a floating liner gave the look a cool, urban edge, but you can add a cat-eye flick or keep your eyes bare if you wish to really maximize the minimal-makeup feel.
“To achieve the same natural effect on the eyelids, we applied a small amount of ‘Ombre Iridescente Eyeshadow in 09 Silver Rose’ using fingers, not a brush. On open eyes, we drew a fine line using the ‘Instant Liner’, just up to the crease, creating an angle in the inner corner of the eye to complement the angled shoulders and shapes of the collection,” Antoniotti shares.
Love Your Lips
Last but not least? Your lips. Keep them looking natural and luscious by picking a makeup product that incorporates the benefits of a skincare product before adding a touch of blush. Yes, you read that right; blusher is a great way to add a really subtle hint of color to your pout! “We used a very light touch of the ‘Blush Prodige in 07 Tawny Pink’ with just a little of the ‘Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in Red Berry’ on top for extra freshness,” Antoniotti explains. Perfect for your pout, this oil not only gives lips a subtle touch of color, but it also looks after them thanks to raspberry and jojoba extracts.
