A mother, wife, and influential Emirati businesswoman, Dr. Lamees Hamdan has achieved tremendous success around the world with her Shiffa products. She created the luxury skincare brand during the early months of her pregnancy after looking for a natural solution to prevent stretch marks. She came up with her very own special product based on natural oils with accurate ratios, which she knew from her work as a dermatologist. This was her starting point, and she continued to create products to try on herself before releasing them on the market.
When asked about the factors that contributed to her brand’s success, she reveals, “First of all, we exert every effort to find the best ingredients from around the world. We choose these regardless of cost, because our clients will pay that little bit more if it means they’re getting the results they desire. We have also been awarded numerous prizes for producing the most effective organic products and we really focus on the concentration of the ingredients to ensure they’re as effective as possible and will help the skin fight aging. Being a dermatologist, I know the concentration that gives the best results.”
Here, Savoir Flair delves into her daily beauty routine to pick up some expert tips and product recommendations.
“I always wash my face with water and love adding a little bit of Shiffa’s ‘Aromatic Facial Cleanser’. I then use the Shiffa ‘Muslin Cloth’ to remove the cleanser. It’s made of pure cotton and organic fibers. I apply a little of the ‘Balancing Facial Toner’ because I have combination skin. Skin gets oily when you apply makeup regularly, so I think using a toner is very important. It maintains the skin’s balance and prevents it from shining throughout the day!
I repeat this skincare process in the evenings too. The face should be washed twice as the first wash removes all traces of dirt and makeup, and the second deeply cleanses the skin and leaves you looking and feeling refreshed. Follow this advice and you will notice the difference in just a few days!”
“I start my day by drinking water in a pure copper cup. It’s been long proven that copper helps purify water, and some of the copper material infiltrates the water so it has multiple benefits for general health and well-being. I always try to keep my body in an alkaline state, and the best way to achieve that is by drinking warm water with a squeeze of lemon, or sipping herbal tea to stay healthy and keep skin youthful.”
“I use an eye cream under my eyes and on my neck, although I am happy to say that I don’t have any neck wrinkles! I then use the ‘Brightening Ampoule’, which contains extracts of kiwi, licorice, sea algae, and vitamin B. Next comes the ‘White Tea Moisturizer’, which I use on my skin just before I apply a sunscreen. Sunscreen has to be effective against both UVA and UVB rays, and I make sure it doesn’t contain fragrance.
I continue my routine by spraying my ‘Aya Perfume’. It contains numerous authentic Arabic notes, such as yellow mandarin and orange flower, as well as patchouli extract and musk. I always spray my perfume on my clothes and never on my skin. This prevents it from reacting with the sun’s rays, which can create dark skin pigmentation.”
“I consider blusher one of the most essential products in my makeup bag as it always helps me look so much more radiant. My go-to is from NARS, because it works so well with pale skin, but I also like the colors Laura Mercier offers. I started using MAC’s ‘Prep + Prime Finishing Powder’ following a friend’s recommendation as it absorbs the extra oils from the skin. Having said that, I barely use any kind of powder or foundation on my skin. In my opinion, it makes skin lose its natural lustre. I love to spice up my look by adding some pieces of jewelry and elegant accessories, and this beautiful necklace by Noor Fares is one of my favorites.”
“I love this lipstick color from Sisley – it’s the perfect choice to give lips a glorious shine. I also always have a Huda Beauty lip liner with me. I love Japanese brands, so always stock up whenever I visit Japan. Charlotte Tilbury is another favorite too! Lots of people aren’t aware that if you wear makeup when you’re tired it can actually make you look even more exhausted – so I tend to wear less makeup during my drips, or none at all! When I’m tired, I never turn to makeup to hide it, and when I’m not I always go for a red lipstick.”
“When I’m tired, I love to pamper myself with the Shiffa ‘Sapphire Body Oil’ after I’ve had a shower. It helps relax your muscles, hydrates your dry skin, and even enhances your sleep. It also works for healing sunburn as the formula contains finely mixed ingredients like chamomile and lavender, as well as other plants and herbs that are beneficial to the body. You can also apply the ‘Rose Bliss Balm’, which effectively moisturizes your skin after showering and keeps wrinkles at bay! It deeply nourishes as it includes honey, Shea butter, and Damascus flowers, which help tone and even out skin color. They are also known for their anti-aging properties.”
“My favorite product is the ‘Healing Balm’ because it has so many benefits for the skin, body, and hair. It also functions as a cure for numerous skin diseases and problems such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and first-degree burns like sunburns and cooking burns. Combining it with lanolin oil doubles its effect; you can apply it on the area around your eyes and even on sensitive skin areas. It is also suitable for kids! I love applying it to my lips to keep them healthy and soft. I like to keep things simple – one effective cream can substitute for a long list of skin products. I don’t like using loads and loads of products and complicating my beauty routine.”
“I help my skin to ‘breathe’ by giving it one day a week to rest. Every Saturday, I wash my face twice and apply my toner, but I skip the moisturizer. I think of it as a fast for my face, just like in Ramadan when you give your body a break – but instead for my skin!”
