Another spooky Halloween has come and gone, and we can’t help but be reminded of the irrational fears that plague us in the form of superstitions – black cats, broken mirrors, and walking under ladders to name a few. Regardless of the folklore they derive from or the reasons we believe in them, superstitions are shared by many people, including two formidable figures in the fashion and fragrance industries: Alber Elbaz and Frédéric Malle.
Many within the industry have speculated on Elbaz’s next move, but he surprised everyone by announcing at the Légion D’Honneur event in Paris that he was working on a new fragrance with the world-renowned perfumer. “The word ‘superstitious’ was the starting point of it all, something we agreed upon immediately. We are both superstitious,” said Elbaz, sharing the origin of his perfume’s name. ‘Superstitious’, which is set to debut in March 2017, is the 24th fragrance designed by Malle and the second that he has created with a fashion designer, following his collaboration with Dries Van Noten in 2013.
In a handwritten note, Elbaz embellishes the fragrance, enlivening the possibilities as to what heady scents it may contain by claiming it captures the essence of a woman’s laughter, tears, strength, and liberty. “Like Alber’s dresses, ‘Superstitious’ elevates the women who wear it. It empowers them,” added Malle.
