Successful people around the world have their morning routines down to a fine art. So just how does Jordanian boutique owner Hannah Rasekh start her day? Savoir Flair gets a peek into her morning rituals, from the beauty products she swears by to her must-have breakfast.
I’m a very light sleeper. The moment I wake up, I have two glasses of water followed by a vanilla-espresso latte… or two! This depends on how long it takes for the coffee to kick in.
I skim through my e-mails and texts over a bowl of granola with coconut shavings, chia seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, and agave nectar. I check the fridge for fruits and veggies to whip up a smoothie because I’ve really been into juicing lately. This morning’s concoction was a ‘Bravocado’ – bananas, avocado, and apples.
I try to meditate for at least ten minutes every morning using an app called Headspace. It helps me clear my head so that I can organize my day as efficiently as possible. I don’t listen to any music in the morning, but I usually watch the news for a few minutes.
Then, I hop into the shower, which is probably my favorite part of my morning routine. I have tested dozens of shampoos since arriving in Dubai, and my favorite so far is the ‘Anti-Sal Shampoo’ by Permea Plus, which is specifically formulated to prevent hair loss due to desalinated water.
I’m a pretty good multi-tasker, and I’ve perfected this skill in the shower. While I condition my hair, I use the Bioderma ‘Sensibio DS+ Cleansing Gel’ on my Clarisonic brush and scrub my face. I’ve been using this cleanser for nine years and I swear by it. The reason you probably won’t find it anywhere is that I stock up on it wherever I find it! I also brush my teeth in the shower, which many people seem to find quite strange.
I get out of the shower and run a Tangle Teezer through my hair. I dry it with a hairdryer immediately because I tend to freeze in my air-conditioned bedroom!
My skincare routine is all about layering. I start by toning my face with Givenchy’s ‘Tone It True’ lotion to tighten up my pores after a shower. I then apply the Bioderma ‘Photoderm SPF50’ and finish off with Indeed Lab’s ‘Hydraluron Moisturizer’, which removes the excess oil from my SPF and locks in moisture. Next, I use the Givenchy ‘Le Soin Noir Renewal Eye Cream’ around my eyes.
I avoid using makeup in the morning, but I’ll maybe apply a BB cream if I have an important meeting or a brunch. My favorite is the one by Bobbi Brown.
If I don’t have any meetings scheduled in the morning, I like to go for a reformer Pilates class at Mojo Pilates in Media City. Other days, I like to use Classport, a super cool fitness app that a friend recently recommended. It gives you monthly access to literally hundreds of gyms across Dubai. If I’ve got a busy morning at work, I usually slip on a pair of jeans and some Manolos with a T-shirt and blazer. My style is very predictable and I’m very comfortable with that. Good morning, Dubai!
