If you have tried (and failed) countless times to imitate the big, bouncy, beautiful blow-dry that your hairdresser creates so effortlessly, you’re not alone. It’s no easy feat to style your hair like a pro, especially if you’re using the wrong products, tools, and techniques. To help you out, Savoir Flair tapped celebrity stylist Jordan Garrett of top London salon Daniel Hersheson for his five top tips on mastering that perfect blow-dry sans salon. Read below to find out more.
Keep the Dirt
“I feel a lot of people struggle to get body or their hair feels too limp, and this often stems from over-washing. Dirty hair is a lot easier to manage – sometimes a quick spritz of dry shampoo is the best way to add volume and achieve that cool, lived-in look.”
“A simple blow-dry trick is going around the hairline. The difference between a good blow-dry and a great blow-dry is getting rid of those unwanted flyaways. Use a small ceramic brush and hairdryer to push the strays back into the hair.”
Know Your Type
“I think knowing your hair type is important. A lot of people self-diagnose their hair and get it wrong. Because of this, they tend to use heavy shampoos and a load of smoothing product, and then wonder why they have flat hair. Next time you’re getting your hair done, ask your stylist what products they would recommend for you. The answer might surprise you!”
Invest in Tools
“Having the correct tools is a massive help – a good brush and hairdryer are a must for me. The power of the dryer combined with a good brush will make your life so much easier!”

Pick Your Products
“Products are here to help, so don’t be afraid to use them. But first, you need to know what look you want to achieve. If it’s a smooth blow-dry, I recommend L’Oreal ‘Liss Control’, while Bumble and Bumble’s ‘Surf Spray’ is great for textured, beachy waves.”
