With our swimsuit-driven holidays inching closer by the minute, whether it’s a relaxing week away on the French Riviera or a Barbados beach break, we all want the same thing: to walk along the sandy shores feeling strong and confident. Read on to discover some of Savoir Flair’s most foolproof tips for keeping your body in tip-top shape this summer, whether you’re staying put or jetting away.
Set a Goal
Your body goals will be very different from those of the person next to you, so it’s important to determine what “perfect” means to you. Whether it’s losing fat, toning up, or simply feeling healthier, you need to know what you’re aiming for in order to plan accordingly. Motivation may be tricky at the beginning, but two weeks into intensive training and hard work and you’ll be thanking yourself for having a goal to work towards!
Get into a Routine
They say you need to make a positive decision three times in order to break a bad habit. That means getting up before work and going to the gym three times, saying “no” to the unnecessary chocolate bar three times, and reaching for healthier choices rather than ordering your favorite takeaway pizza three times – that’s when the bad habits start to break and new ones begin to form. It’s incredibly easy to slip back into comforting ways, but toned abs and a lifted derrière don’t come easy! The mind is your best friend when it comes to making a commitment and achieving results.
Try Out Different Classes
If you’re upping the ante by working out, it’s a good idea to explore several options. This will help strengthen the body in different ways in addition to keeping the motivation and excitement sky high! There are more classes than ever available right now to suit all preferences. Think water makes you bloated? It’s quite the opposite! Water has been shown to boost the metabolism and accelerate fat loss by removing toxins from the body and helping it to work at its optimum level. Not only that, but dehydration can lead to poor performance during exercise, which in turn will slow down fat loss and toning results. Aim to drink at least two liters of water per day and even more if you’re exercising frequently or in a hot environment.
Eat Clean, but Have Fun
There’s a really fine line between being healthy and fit and feeling like you’re on a regimen so strict that it makes socializing unenjoyable. We’re strong advocates of the 80/20 rule, which gives you the best of both worlds. Your body has the energy and nutrition it needs to make the changes you want it to, but by not being super strict, you also get to enjoy the summer and feel like it’s an actual holiday! Having balance from one day to the next also prevents the “urge to splurge”, which always leads to regret the next day.
Make Healthy Food Swaps
Healthy doesn’t have to mean boring, and the best way to beat that notion is to come up with exciting food substitutions that make being healthy feel like a breeze. Take your average snack for instance, like a packet of chips, and swap it for natural salted popcorn (without any additives). You’ll still enjoy what you’re eating, we promise! Even if it’s not always the best raw or organic option, make sure it’s not the worst and find a happy medium.
Don't Forget Your Sneakers
Whether you’re traveling the globe, indulging in a staycation, or setting up camp in a luxury villa for two weeks, there is one item in your suitcase that should never be forgotten – your sneakers. If they are there, staring you in the face, chances are they’ll be used! Keep up the exercise right until the holiday – and throughout it – so that your confidence levels stay high all summer long.
