Harsh summer weather can wreak havoc on your hair, from frizz and flyaways to disaster dryness. Heat, humidity, and extreme weather strip locks of natural moisture, leaving them looking and feeling dry and brittle. To stop summer in its hair-hating tracks, try this easy-to-make DIY hair mask. All you need are three natural ingredients you most likely have in your kitchen cupboard or fridge, and you’re good to go.
For a beautifying boost, reach for bananas. These yellow fruits are bursting with potassium, vitamins A, E, and C, antioxidants, and natural oils, and they contain over 75 percent water, which makes them mighty hair moisturizers. They also help to strengthen locks, prevent breakages and split ends, and encourage hair growth whilst helping to maintain hair’s elasticity.
Avocados are amazing hair heroes. These tropical fruits contain phytochemicals, antioxidants, and amino acids to nourish hair cells, prevent and heal damage, and hydrate and moisturize locks. High in vitamins B and E, they are super hair strengtheners and help soothe the scalp whilst encouraging growth and preventing hair loss.
With a hint of honey (a natural humectant, meaning it attracts moisture), you’ll soon have locks that are, quite literally, good enough to eat.
Mash up one ripe banana and half an avocado, and add a tablespoon of honey. Blend well to create a smooth paste before applying all over the hair (damp or dry) and seal with a shower cap. Leave on for 20 minutes before shampooing and conditioning.
