With a roster of clients that includes just about every blonde in Los Angeles, from Khloé Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen to Lily Aldridge and Martha Hunt, Tracey Cunningham is a force to be reckoned with. Savoir Flair caught up with the celebrity colorist during her residency at Belle Femme Salon earlier last month to pick her brains about caring for colored hair in the summer.

The best way to combat the effects of chlorine, Cunningham shared, is to coat your hair with coconut oil or conditioner and then twist it up into a bun. The greasy coating will stop toxins from the pool from being absorbed immediately. As for the sun’s effect on your color? It just makes it better, according to her. “Like I tell all my clients… go have fun in the sun, then come see me after and I’ll fix it,” she adds.
