Gone are the days when you had to hide your glasses at home. In fact, optical frames have become essential for nailing the geek-chic trend, with the likes of Kendall Jenner,Gigi Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski proudly sporting their spectacles recently. The trick to rocking your specs is to make sure that your makeup complements, rather than detracts from, the overall look.
Savoir Flair tapped two experts – Kate Goodwin, Makeup Artist and Founder of Illumin8 Makeup Studio, and Wendy Simmons, Chief Brand Officer for eyewear brand Moscot– for their top tips on how to make the most of your makeup when wearing glasses, including how to pick the right frames for your face.
1
"Match the thickness of your eyeliner to the thickness of your frames. Wear a thinner line with lighter frames, and a heavier line with heavier frames so that your makeup doesn't get lost. Waterproof gel liner is the best as it won’t move until you remove it." – Kate Goodwin

"Feline flicks elongate the eyes and look fantastic with matching frames as the eye shape and the cat-eye frames complement one another." – Kate Goodwin

3
"Avoid frames with nose pads as they tend to smudge makeup. Rubber nose pads may also turn a different color due to contact with makeup." – Wendy Simmons
4
"A touch of blusher on the cheeks is important as it helps to brighten the face and lift the cheekbones." – Kate Goodwin
5
"Choose a frame that contrasts the shape of your face to accentuate your features. Someone with a round face should go for an angular frame like a square or cat-eye style, while someone with an angular face should opt for something softer like a round frame. It’s all about balancing out your features." – Wendy Simmons

"Applying concealer to the undereye area is really important to keep it bright. I also recommend using an eye base for the eyelid itself as this really opens the eye. Laura Mercier's ‘Eye Basics’ works as a concealer for the eyelid and absorbs any oil to keep the lids crease-free." – Kate Goodwin

"Make sure that your frames meet your eyebrows or come as close as possible to them, rather than too far above or below." – Wendy Simmons
8
"When you're wearing strong frames, a good way to balance them out is by wearing a bold lip to take away some of the emphasis." – Kate Goodwin
9
"Get an anti-glare coating on your lenses so you don’t get that pesky glare in photos. This makes your fabulous eye makeup more visible." – Wendy Simmons
10
"By filling in your brows, you will help to really frame the face, add structure, and ensure that your frames don't overwhelm your features." – Kate Goodwin
