Hannah Murray gives us a lesson in Skinification 101.

As the Global Artistic Director of Bobbi Brown, Hannah Murray brings her fresh perspective and makeup artistry expertise to the iconic beauty brand. With almost two decades of fashion and celebrity experience, Murray joined Bobbi Brown on its 30th anniversary in 2021. The stars aligned to bring these two icons together, forging a new path for the brand that has set it up for success even as the tides of beauty have shifted due to social media. In an exclusive interview with Savoir Flair, Murray discussed her vision, the importance of skincare in makeup, and some exciting new launches from Bobbi Brown.

One key philosophy that has always been central to Bobbi Brown is the concept of "skinification" — a skin-first approach to makeup. "Bobbi Brown has always been a skin-first brand, and it's something that has always driven my aesthetic, too," said Murray. "I truly believe if skin looks and feels nourished, bright, and smooth, then any makeup accent looks more effortless and modern." This skinification philosophy shines through in Bobbi Brown's new Vitamin Enriched range. The star product is the Vitamin Enriched Smoothing Serum, which Murray raves "really awakens and brightens the skin" with ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. The range also includes the beloved Vitamin Enriched Face Base that "nourishes and plumps and creates a flawless base for makeup" and the Vitamin Skin Tint that provides "the most natural radiant base."

"We wanted to create a lighter, milky-textured hydrating serum to complement our much loved Vitamin Enriched Face Base," Murray explained about the development of the new serum. "It took a lot of tweaking to get the right consistency and finish, but we all believed in it from the start. I've used it for over a year, and my skin has dramatically improved."

Murray sees skincare as playing an increasingly important role in the makeup industry. The beauty industry has seen a massive rise in skincare in recent years, becoming an enormous trend amongst the younger generation thanks to platforms like TikTok, so it's only natural that combining both is key to success. "We're always looking at new formulas and innovation so that we're at the forefront of this movement," Murray shared.

Combining both skincare and makeup products does not mean compromising on natural looks. In terms of Murray's personal artistry aesthetic, she favors an effortless, skin-enhancing look. "I want to see freckles and the personality of the person, not a face full of heavy makeup," she noted. At the same time, she still wants Bobbi Brown to feel aspirational and exciting. "I want people to see an image and think, 'Wow, I want to look like that!' while also not feeling like it's unattainable."

Murray teased upcoming launches showcasing this vision, including a trendy yet disruptive collection in September and some easy, cream-based multitaskers. Overall, her goal is to bring "a modern vision to today's beauty while always keeping in mind" Bobbi Brown's core philosophy of "celebrating individuality and the skin you are in." With the appointment of Murray and her keen artistic eye and its stellar skinification-focused products, Bobbi Brown continues to lead the way in creating makeup that lets your natural beauty shine through.
