Where celestial brushstrokes meet the fabric of dreams.
In the dynamic world of art and fashion, collaborations often mark a shift in cultural narratives. This is vividly evident in the upcoming “Ethereal Echoes” exhibition, a pioneering venture uniting the talents of Marina Fedorova, a distinguished Russian artist, and Yousef Akbar, an innovative Saudi Arabian fashion designer. Scheduled from November 25th to December 9th, 2023, at Riyadh’s FWD by MOKSYZ Boutique Centria Mall, the exhibition promises a compelling dialogue between different mediums and cultures, enriched by a digital reality.
Marina Fedorova, known for her expansive work in the Cosmodreams series, brings a depth of philosophical reflection and space-themed research to this collaboration. Her celestial canvases, enhanced by augmented reality, offer an immersive experience far beyond traditional art.
Fedorova shares, “From one perspective, collaboration with Yousef Akbar is a perfect match with my inner world and Cosmodreams theme; from another perspective, Saudi Arabia's heritage has a huge artistic and cultural impact on me personally and my artwork as well. This inspiration allowed me to create such a unique fusion of art, fashion, and heritage in a project such as Ethereal Echoes. Through this exhibition, I would like to show my deep respect and admiration of Saudi Arabia, that I’m fully open to new experiences and discoveries, and I hope to encourage people to explore and enjoy new places and cultures as I do.”
Through this project, I would like to show my deep respect and admiration of Saudi Arabia.
This aligns seamlessly with Yousef Akbar’s contribution in design — a series of contemporary dresses that blur the lines between tangible fashion and ethereal art. Akbar, a celebrated Saudi designer and winner of the Fashion Trust Arabia Eveningwear Prize in 2020, is renowned for his eloquent expressions of fabric and form. His unique approach to fashion design, characterized by a daring play of cuts and construction, challenges traditional norms while preserving elegance and femininity. His creations are not just garments, but narratives woven in fabric, reflecting his deep-seated passion for storytelling through fashion. Akbar’s designs for “Ethereal Echoes” are inspired by the rich cultural tapestry of Saudi Arabia and the enchanting Al-Ahsa Oasis, symbolizing his profound connection to his homeland and his aspiration to redefine the contours of modern fashion design. Each piece in the exhibition embodies his vision and voice, turning emotions and cultural heritage into wearable art.
Akbar shares, “It's been such an incredible process working with such an incredible artist. The combination of art, painting, digital art, and physical fashion has always been fascinating to me. In particular with Marina, who is inspired by incredible women — as am I. Women are such an important part of my life and my work; it is wonderful to see all these common threads coming together in the Ethereal Echoes exhibition.”
The combination of Art, Painting, Digital Art and Physical fashion, has always been fascinating to me.
The collaboration between Fedorova and Akbar transcends mere artistic partnership. It embodies a shared vision of peaceful coexistence and cultural synergy. As Akbar interweaves his contemporary fashion designs with Fedorova’s cosmic-themed artworks, the exhibition becomes a multisensory journey, transcending boundaries and cultures. Through their artistic synergy, they not only celebrate Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage but also push the frontiers of self-expression and digital innovation in art and fashion. This collaboration between a painter and a fashion designer, each rooted in distinct cultural and heritage backgrounds, sets a precedent for future creative endeavors, underscoring the power of art and fashion in bridging diverse worlds.
Join these creatives at “Ethereal Echoes” to witness this unique fusion of art, fashion, technology, and heritage – a narrative that extends beyond the conventional into a realm of imaginative possibility.
