Located in Dubai's newest dining and nightlife destination at The Link by One&Only One Za'abeel, DuangDy by Bo.Lan is a remarkable addition to Dubai’s culinary scene. With some of the best views in the hotel – and perhaps, the whole city – its floor-to-ceiling windows frame dramatic views of both Old and New Dubai. As you step into the space, you’re greeted by muted colors and neutrals, artworks that pay homage to Thai farmers and fishermen, and an interior that blends minimalism with subtle Thai artistry. The use of elements like a contemporary Cha Plu leaf-shaped plate, woven textiles, and wooden artifacts brings an earthy, grounded feel to the restaurant.

First Impressions

The dining experience begins with unique cultural elements. Starting the night off in a fun and educational way, guests are seated at the cozy receiving area and greeted with a game of seam si fortune sticks. A welcome drink, reminiscent of jasmine rice, is also offered – subtly honoring Thailand’s agricultural heritage. Meanwhile, the signature beverage menu is inspired by Tarot cards, which introduces an element of surprise – you pick a card and let chance decide your drink!

Sustainability at Its Core

The restaurant’s commitment to eco-friendly practices is evident across the board. From the use of natural materials in its fragrances and decor to a menu that emphasizes sustainable sourcing, the restaurant actively minimizes its environmental footprint. This philosophy extends to the storytelling journey of Thai cuisine, where each dish is reminiscent of Thailand’s rich culinary history. For instance, the fruits and vegetables represent the country’s vibrant agriculture, and the Son-in-Law Eggs have an amusing backstory on how it got its name — which we won’t spoil for you. A Menu of Delights

A respect for tradition, infused with creativity, can be felt and tasted in the recipes. The food is reassuringly familiar and heart-warming, yet some of the typical Thai fare found in most restaurants, such as pad thai and tom yum soup, is notably absent. This is due to DuangDy’s heavy focus on sourcing sustainable ingredients and promoting a zero-waste, eco-conscious approach. Unlike some establishments that may rely on pre-made mixes, DuangDy by Bo.Lan  takes pride in creating every sauce, garnish, and paste in-house, using manual tools instead of food processors, to preserve the flavors and natural textures of the ingredients. There are no contrived ideas; everything has its significance and is designed for sharing, offering a communal dining experience. 

The Red Thai Curry shines as a highlight, with hand-extracted coconut milk meticulously prepared from scratch, enriching the vegetables and tender chicken with its depth of flavor. Meanwhile, the Thai Son-in-Law eggs (Kai Look Keuy) emphasize the beauty of simplicity with their crispy, golden exteriors, and zesty sweet-and-sour sauce.

For those who enjoy a bit (or a lot) of heat, the wok-fried beef infused with Thai chili is a bold choice. A word of advice: When they say “spicy,” they mean it. This dish is hot, salty, decadent, and addictingly satisfying, delivering a Thai level of heat that is both invigorating and worth every fiery bite.

To cool things down, the must-try dessert is a shaved-ice concoction of pandan noodles with assorted agar agar, young coconut in date syrup, and smoked cream. It is milky, smoky, and a little bit nostalgic, continuing the theme of refined simplicity with its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors.
