When Miuccia Prada has a strong design itch she needs to scratch, it often carries over to her Miu Miu line as well. Building on the intense 70s theme of her Prada line, Miuccia favors a collection made almost entirely of pantsuits. Models were homogenized in exaggerated 70s makeup and loose, flaxen hair. Their crisp suits blended the fashion of 1970s London with the European dandyism of the late 19th century. Save for the last few looks that comprised the entirety of her eveningwear offerings, this collection was tri-fold: a silk blouse (either monochrome or patterned), paired with a jacket and trousers. Miu Miu keeps it from being too visually underwhelming by changing up the prints and fabrics of the pantsuits. Some were adorned in abstract geometry, some were one solid color, and others were made of lavish wallpaper prints. Checkered fichu scarves were tucked into high-collars for added intrigue. The silhouette mimicked the leisure suit prototype: cropped trousers were topped with jackets that curved well past the hips. Her last few dresses came with a repeated chunky black mirror chainmail overlay that looked a little difficult to move in – curious given the macho ease of the suits that dominated the runway. While most designers delve into the deep past and pull out Victorian, Balkan, and Greek Isle inspirations, Prada gives us the recent past to revisit. Feeling leisurely? A Miu Miu printed pantsuit should do you just fine.
