Elie Saab Spring 2012 Couture
There are few designers that can accomplish Elie Saab’s seasonal feat of creating satisfying, uncomplicated and yet, ethereally beautiful gowns. Because of his talent, he has been singled out as the rising star behind so many red carpet looks of late, and this collection is proof that that there is merit to his accolades. We want one thing from Elie Saab: beauty. And he delivers.
If there really was a fairy godmother, this is how she would benevolently clad her subjects: in fresh sorbet shades of shimmering mint green, peach, blush pink, taupe, ice blue, and a pale yellow that mimics the shade of a weak winter sunrise. Though at first glance this cadre of gorgeous gowns belongs to the Good Girl clan, there are enough sly peaks at the human form to undermine the idea that this is an innocent collection. Though it could be described as angelic, darling even, Saab still makes a powerful statement that withstands the yards of chiffon and gauze and dainty appliqués to stand on its own merit. Elie Saab dresses are light, airy, and other-worldly, but remain in a class of their own because of his unmitigated devotion to beauty.
