Giorgio Armani Spring 2012
The clothes on the Armani Spring/Summer 2012 runway shone with an incandescent luster, made possible by yards and yards of the sheeniest silks around. The looks Armani went for were soft and elegant, and somehow, still versatile. You could wear the day looks in this collection to a yacht party, a seaside resort, or even to attend a wedding.
While luminescent dressing was the name of the game, there was an undercurrent of traditional Armani tailoring that supported this collection. Armani is strict on tradition, and though it strays from the expected in those strange silver and black eveningwear dresses that closely resemble mint wrappers, it stays within predictable, but lovely confines for the most part. The treat of the show was the pearl gown triptych shown at the end by a trio of models who walked carefully and innocently down the runway with eyes cast low and arms slung around each other. From soft silks to hard pearls, the common thread in this collection was that it all radiated light.
As pearly and pretty as a Renoir or Degas painting.
