Fashion Forward Season 1 Coverage: Whyesse

Yokut Schmid’s brand Whyesse is something of a multicultural melting pot of influences, aesthetics, and materials. Her bespoke looks are created by renowned Swiss fabric producer Jakob Schlaepfer, her design sensibilities follow the trail of Western influence, and her biggest inspiration is the desert backdrop of Dubai. Pulling from a variety of sources usually results in a unique outcome, and that happens to be just the case with Whyesse’s latest presentation. Prints that resembled an abstract version of ikat came down the runway on sheath dresses and suit separates, lending the clothing an exotic, tropical feel. Lengths were short or cropped, which kept the mood vibrant and youthful, and cuts were simple and flattering, making this an accessible and commercially viable collection.
