Paris Fashion Week Coverage: Givenchy Fall 2013

When Riccardo Tisci himself proclaims this collection as the most fun he’s had designing in years, you know you’re in for a treat. Dark, romantic, and nostalgic themes dominated the Givenchy runway and all the benefit goes to the consumer who is destined to eat up these stunning, layered looks.

Tisci returns to the sweatshirt and reworks it with new graphic prints, the first of which is splashed with a silhouette of Disney’s Bambi. He pits contrasting prints of rosebuds and paisleys against one another, but they end up looking harmonious and sweet when paired with edgy leather accents. Tisci works in an air of suggestion by alternating opaque tops with sheer bottoms. His outerwear comes in a range of textures from leather and suede moto jackets and chubby mink coats to toggle-trenches sporting leather inserts. His most forward-thinking looks feature folds that look like peeling layers, some of which are cinched by corset belts. His skirts flounce, flare, and flirt in sheer fabrics and multiple lengths. He accessorizes the looks with striped snakeskin boots, cotton candy caps and huge metal bracelets. There is romance aplenty in this collection. However, if these are not clothes to fall in love in, they are certainly clothes to fall in love with.
