Paris Fashion Week Coverage: Chloé Fall 2013

Chloé designer, Clare Waight Keller, took a decisive step in the direction of the hard and austere for her Fall/Winter 2013 presentation, where the schoolgirl took a sophisticated turn on the catwalk in clean, minimal separates. She punched up the more severe looks with a smattering of hardware like grommets and zippers, and a neutral palette of gray, navy, black, and white stayed the course of the ascetic message.

The core of the collection was comprised of a series of shapely pinafores, high-waisted trousers and pencil skirts, fitted outerwear in fur and wool, and light blouses. In the mix were graphic knits, sheer polka dot and gold cage mesh overlays, and jackets both plain and sporting oversized pockets. Little details made the pieces pop, like a tweed skirt that came inset with a strip of blue fabric beneath an open zipper slit, and a sweet gray fur coat topped with a starchy, crisp bib collar. Every look hits hard and fast, but Keller chose to close the show on a softer note showing two looks that matched boxy tops with billowing, gathered tulle skirts that were airy and gorgeous. This ready-to-wear collection hits the ground running, capable of fulfilling not only your seasonal needs but also packed with key between-season transitional pieces.
