Milan Fashion Week Coverage: Emporio Armani Spring 2013

For all of the retro inspiration that bleeds onto the runway every season, Armani chose to pull from a more recent decade for Spring/Summer 2013: the 80s. Plaid-printed shorts suits and giant hoop earrings were a blast from the Bill Blass past, but updated for the modern woman – or perhaps for the modern girl. The tiny shorts skewed youthful, but this is in keeping with the direction Armani’s trying to take the brand in. He added a more artistic flair to his presentation as well by juxtaposing both angular and curvy elements in single looks, and blending hardy fabrics like wool with soft fabrics like silk. His collage of mismatched pieces was refreshing as opposed to overwhelming because of his commitment to a neutral and washed-out pastel palette. Even disparate looks were happily married in the easy separates shown on the Emporio Armani runway. From shorts suits and elongated A-line jackets to simple shifts and bib tops, the Armani girl will have her pick of chic daywear next season.
