New York Fashion Week Coverage: Proenza Schouler Spring 2013

It’s no wonder that fashion wunderkind Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez get away with citing Tumblr as a source of inspiration for their latest collection. They’re so plugged in and in tune with our digital world that anything less absurd would have been a disappointment. The collage-like aspect of the Tumblr universe is a reference point, and one they riff on with their mixed prints, patterns, and textures.

This collection doesn’t come together steadily, but McCollough and Hernandez still steer the presentation with a steady hand. We were clued into this fact by their boxy lacquered toppers in scorching reds, wavy printed dresses, and contrasting silk-patchwork separates. So, yes, maybe it’s a little dizzying and disorienting to see it presented this way, but it’s so effortlessly articulated that we forget that this puzzle-piece collection is pushing the interlocking internet zeitgeist forward in some way.
