Paris Fashion Week Coverage: Chloé Spring 2012

Claire Waight Keller’s debut collection with Chloé was not an overt smash hit, but it was concise and excellent. Following in the footsteps of Phoebe Philo, who so thoroughly defined and shaped the brand, is a difficult task – but if this collection is any indication, Keller is up to the challenge.

A series of flowing white pieces – both dresses and skirt/top combos – launched the show, but they were shot through with strands of cappuccino tan and turquoise. A sparse tropical floral print, set against bleach white trousers and tops, punched up the color in this collection. Tuxedo shirts sent a menswear mood through the show. There was a relaxed, cool ease to this collection that embodied the Chloé name, especially in those slouchy perforated sweaters and midi-length skirts paired with low-slung belts. There is a whisper in this collection of things to come. Once Keller establishes sure footing at Chloé, you can be sure she will deliver.
